11 Blogging Mistakes Every Blogger Should Avoid

Hi blog fam! I’m here again with more blogging tips.. one of my favorite articles to write. So today, I shall be touching on the shortcomings and mistakes bloggers tend to make and it should be avoided at all cost.

These mistakes sometimes are unintentional, you might be thinking “oh that will bring me some traffic” but I hate to break it to you that it might even cause you to lose readers and irritate potential readers, so take notes and don’t do them.

  • 1. LEAVING YOUR WEBSITE’S LINK IN THE COMMENTS:
  • This is an error made mostly by new bloggers, you shouldn’t leave any link in the comments of any blogger. You should rather read the article, like and leave a thoughtful comment. No extra links needed. If the blogger enjoy reading your comment, your page will be checked out voluntarily. Leaving links are annoying and most times they get ignored.

  • 2. THE PRESENCE OF LITTLE OR NO PICTURES:
  • Always make use of enough pictures in blog posts. Humans are visual creations and are drawn most times to articles with pictures. You don’t have to put too much pictures, that sometimes is annoying but the presence of pictures in a blog post is great and it attracts readers to click, sometimes encourage them to read till the end and also to give live to a blog post. Sometimes, readers understand your point better when useful pictures are used.

  • 3. WRITING ON TOPICS YOU ARE NOT INTERESTED IN:
  • If you indulge in this, then blogging will become a chore for you and it shouldn’t be so. Blogging should be an activity you enjoy and love doing, this is why you should always write on subjects, themes and topics you are passionate about, topics that gives you joy when sharing. Don’t write on topics you’re not interested about just for views, you will get bored quite quickly.

  • 4. STAYING IN ISOLATION:
  • This is simply when a blogger doesn’t interact with others in the blogging community. You will need to make your content public and also check around for blogs that interest you, interact with fellow bloggers. This is important because being silent or isolated will not bring growth or recognition to your blog.

  • 5. NOT WRITING IN ADVANCE:
  • Especially for part-time bloggers, there will be times where you can’t give so much attention to your blog because of other commitments. Not writing in advance, can disrupt your blogging schedule and keep your readers waiting. Also, sometimes some ideas can come to you quickly and you might need to write on them immediately hence you forget. So scheduling blog post is very important, so as to ensure a balance between your blogging life and your personal life.

  • 6. PROMISING YOUR READERS UNREALISTIC POST SCHEDULES:
  • Some blogger do promise readers to post everyday or five times a week, but they later realize that they can’t keep up with that standard and they will have to make new modifications to the plan. The point is, always set your blog schedules on time and days convenient for you to share. Don’t follow a trend of daily posting if you can’t handle the pressure, only promise readers days you know will be absolutely convenient and the workload is within your capacity and limit.

  • 7. POSTING MULTIPLE BLOG POSTS AT ONCE:
  • Okay! this in particular bothers me a lot! Overcrowding your readers timeline is absolutely disrespectful, you should learn to be considerate and reduce the amount of times you post in a day. Spamming your readers timeline will prevent other bloggers work to be seen and that is not fair. Such blogging behaviors will only win an unfollow from your readers.

  • 8. IGNORING COMMENTS:
  • This is just rude! Not acknowledging your comments is bad and it does not speak well of the blogger. No matter how simple the comment is, you should always give a reply and also appreciate the reader in the process.

  • 9. NOT SHARING ON SOCIAL MEDIA PLATFORMS:
  • Social media is a very important marketing tool. It helps create more awareness to your blog and also invites non-WordPress readers to also gain in the information passed through you. So always utilize your social media pages.

  • 10. OBSESSING OVER YOUR STATISTICS: Constantly monitoring your stats can depress you, as the figures you might be seeing is not what you expect. The figures you’re expecting takes time to achieve. You will need to forget about your stats completely, don’t check all the time, just sometimes and briefly. Also, don’t let what you see discourage and bring you down. Ignore and keep doing what you do best. Writing!

  • 11. INCONSISTENCY:
  • New bloggers most times rush into blogging and after a while their commitment drops and they become inconsistent, some old time bloggers also play the game of inconsistency with the hope of getting away with it. You might, but soon, you won’t be able to avoid the consequences. Inconsistency causes a blogger to be easily forgotten, as there are so many hard working and zealous bloggers now in the community. You will be easily replaced by a better blogger, no amount of apologies will suffice. So, do make sure to be as consistent as possible with your blog post. At least once a week will still keep your readers happy.

    7. Good tips! I was curious about the link in the comments – I had someone actually ask “what’s your website/blog?” because I don’t usually include it. But when I tried adding it, it really did feel spammy and unnatural lol. Back to NOT including links. 😉
